Two layers: composition and recording
In the Netherlands, copyright protects the composition (melody, lyrics, original arrangement choices). A separate framework covers neighbouring rights on the concrete recording — whoever financed and organised the recording usually controls commercial use of the master file, within the contracts you sign.
Monoxyleorix B.V. provides mastering as a service; we are not your lawyer. For splits, label deals or sync, consult entertainment counsel or see the disclaimer as a reminder that guides are not tailored advice.
What mastering with us delivers
Mastering at Monoxyleorix is final polish for streaming and download, reference listening with Iris Nakamura and export notes (sample rate, peak, multiple formats by agreement). Per song €68; EP up to six €235; album up to twelve €395 — incl. 21% VAT.
You receive master WAVs meant for distributor upload; we do not automatically register with Buma/Stemra or Sena — you or your label handle that. Technical flow: mastering service.
Collective management
Composers and lyricists in the Netherlands often join Buma/Stemra for royalties on radio and live use. That is separate from who owns the master file. Performers and producers may receive fees via Sena for radio broadcast of recordings — again, role and contract decide who gets what.
Studio mastering does not change your membership status. At release, credit metadata correctly (writer, performer, producer) as your distributor requires; errors there sit outside our mastering export.
Contract with the studio
Our terms and conditions cover payment (including 40% deposit, B2B term 14 days), delivery, liability and what happens to session files during the 24-month archive. Read the article on rights and delivery for exact wording — it overrides this guide.
If you arrive as a band: agree who signs the quote, who receives master files and who may license for video or ads. We do not manage internal band agreements.
File formats and backup
We deliver PCM-WAV masters by default; lossless is standard for Apple Music, Spotify and most distributors. Request any alternative format before export — not after archive closure from old sessions.
Keep copies in at least two places (cloud + local drive). After 24 months we delete studio archive per privacy policy; lost files from missing your own backup fall outside our obligation. Mix stems before master: mix stems guide.
Performers and consent
Every singer, session player or rapper on your recording should know what the take is used for. Verbal “yeah fine” is not enough for long-term commercial use — written agreement on fee and scope prevents release-day disputes.
Bringing guest musicians to band recording? Plan load-in time and signing or email approval before takes. Minimum booking age at our studio: 16; younger participants only with parent/guardian (vocal/band pages).
Revisions, complaints and next steps
Mastering usually includes one revision round on substantive master choices after first delivery — details are in your quote and terms, aligned with mix (mixing has 2 rounds). Objective technical fault (corrupt file, wrong length) we fix.
Unhappy with tone? Send labelled references and timestamps, not twenty conflicting tracks. Contact or 020 244 8916; reply within 1 business day when possible. Cookie choices on this site: .
